Black Powder War review

Black Powder War is the 3rd in the Temeraire series, and continues Laurence's adventures in the Napoleonic Wars. Like the first two novels, it's a fun, easy read, just the right length. It's not without its issues, and is somewhat slower than the other books, and there's a real lack of action.

Unashamedly anti-colonial and anti-war, The Word for World is Forest is a fine novella written as a clear reaction to Vietnam, and while it's not among Le Guin's best or most well-written works, it's certainly worth a read over a few afternoons.

A Practical Guide to Conquering the World review

I like A Practical Guide, more than How to Rule an Empire, but less than Sixteen Ways. It's got Parker's typical droll and ironic main character, with healthy doses of humor and sarcasm throughout. There are some battles, some twists and turns, and it's overall just a fun read.
