Trials of Mana review

August 26, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: reviews

I've finished the game, and my thoughts mostly echo my initial impressions. Trials of Mana is a simple, fun RPG with deep party-building mechanics, tons of potential for build diversity, some replayability, and fun hack and slash gameplay.I chose Duran, Charlotte, and Riesz as my 3 characters. Duran as the main character and attacker, Riesz as support, and Charlotte as healing. This worked really well, especially later in the game as healing skills piled up and started stacking with each other. Playing around with the different ability combos was a highlight.

The graphics are nothing special, but the art style is nice enough. Same for the music. The voice acting is famously cheesy, but in most cases loops around to being decent. The story is as cookie-cutter as it gets too, but sometimes that's a breath of fresh air.

All in all a pretty good action RPG that's not going to blow you away. Simple good fun that'll keep you entertained for the 15-20 hours a main story playthrough takes. Solid 8/10.
