Troy: Fall of Kings review

February 3, 2024 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: reviews

Another Gemmell book, another awesome siege. David Gemmell is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors - his writing is descriptive without being dense, fast-paced, and easy to read. Gemmell might do the best fantasy battle scenes and sieges of any fantasy author I've read. Fall of Kings is a really satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and wraps up all of the loose ends of the previous books.

Ancient Greece is such an interesting time period, and we have so much surviving material to pull from. The trilogy pulls together pieces of the Iliad, Odyssey, and the Aeneid, twisting the myths and inventing when necessary for the story, and feels at once familiar and new.

Highly recommended.
