9 Kings

June 29, 2025 - Reading time: 2 minutes - Category: game library project

This game popped up on my radar really recently and has been getting a ton of attention. It looked cool, so I picked it up on sale. It's a fun card-based tower defense roguelite autobattler with some basic city builder mechanics.

There's a lot going on but at its core this is a pretty simple game. You start with a plot of land, and have a few cards. You plop down a card on each plot - like archer or melee units, support towers, and cards that augment your other units - and then face waves of enemies. Every round you draw a new card and can plop down something new or upgrade your existing units. Every so often there's a shop where you can buy cards with accumulated gold or have random "decrees" that give you bonuses.

It's a pretty simple gameplay loop but it's really satisfying. A full winning run took me about 25 minutes which for me is a perfect length. There are 7 characters to play with so far (despite the name) and each levels up independently with a perk tree that gives you permanent bonuses.

I'm not sure this is one you can "finish" but I plan to keep it in my rotation for sure.

Verdict: Keep Playing
