The Backyard Sports games are slowly being re-released on Steam. I don't have any real nostalgia for the PC versions of these games, but I had "Backyard Baseball" on the GBA that released in 2002 which I think is based mostly on this version. I picked up Backyard Baseball '01 and played a season game. I do want to point out this is not really a "remaster", it's a port that runs well on modern systems with achievements. But the graphics and gameplay are the same as the original.
It's fun. Obviously don't expect a true baseball simulation here. This game and all Backyard sports games are for 4-8 year olds, really. Everything is controlled with the mouse, controls are really simple, it's easy, it's kind of slow. What this game does have is a lot of 'soul'. The character sprites are really nicely animated, every character has some funny voice lines, the commentary is surprisingly good (though there's not a huge amount of it) and the 'chatter' of the kids during at-bats is cute.
Good for anyone who wants to feel some nostalgia or who wants a dead simple baseball game. Still good for kids.
Verdict: Endless
