Donkey Kong Bananza

July 26, 2025 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

The hype around this game was one of the driving factors in me buying a Switch 2, and after a couple hours of play I can say it's well worth the hype.

You can definitely feel the Mario Odyssey DNA in this one, which makes sense since the same team created it. It's pseudo-open world, and there are tons of small challenges scattered around the reward you with bananas (moons). It also feels just a bit like Bowser's Fury.

It looks great, and it plays really well. The controls are super simple, but there's a depth to them where every challenge feels like there's a couple ways to approach it.

I'm excited to play more of this one and see how the game opens up and gets more varied. This is shaping up to be one of the best 3D platformers in years.

Verdict: Keep Playing
