God of War Ragnarök

June 28, 2025 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

I've been a big fan of the God of War games since the original trilogy, and while I really liked 2018's Norse reboot, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the originals. I've had the sequel, Ragnarok, in my backlog for a while, and so far it's more of the same.

Sony's first party games follow a bit of a theme: over the shoulder camera, heavy on cinematics, with chunky combat. It's a departure from the original trilogy and has led to Sony's games feeling a bit samey. For me, I wish God of War kept up the frantic hack and slash gameplay, but I like this more story-heavy approach as well.

I like these games as a one-time playthrough, spread out across a couple years so they don't all run together. I'll definitely finish this one.

Verdict: Keep Playing
