Next up on my Pokemon Living Dex Challenge is Generation 2, with SoulSilver. Generation 2 is one I don't have a ton of memories with. I remember playing a ton of Pokemon FireRed, and Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and then jumping ahead to Pearl and Black, but never really play Gold, Silver, or these remakes. I definitely had them, but for some reason this generation didn't get a ton of attention from me.
I've only playing far enough to get the first badge, but this is clearly a well-made game. The transition to the DS was pretty smooth, and the graphics are updated while keeping in the same style as the GBA games. This game is technically in Generation 4, which means the physical/special split is in effect. I'm going to be trying to build my team using as many Johto Pokemon as I can, since I already have most of the Kanto Pokemon in my collection. I will say one frustrating bit of this particular game is the time mechanics. The game runs on a cycle matching the real-world clock, with different Pokemon being available to catch in the morning, afternoon, and night. As someone who works fulltime, it's kind of hard for me to do any meaningful playing during the morning or afternoon on weekdays. I can change my computer clock to manipulate the time, but it is a minor annoyance.
I can usually get through Pokemon games pretty quickly, and there's not so many Johto Pokemon as there were Kanto, so I should be able to breeze through pretty quickly. We'll see, though. This is a pretty beefy game, and I'm also playing Old School RuneScape and still trying to find time to sink my teeth into Crimson Desert.
Verdict: Keep Playing
