Word Play

July 19, 2025 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Word Play is the new game from the Game Maker's Toolkit Youtube channel, and the premise is simple and pretty fun.

You have a grid of letters and have to create words to reach a certain score. It's sort of like Scrabble. Common letters are worth one point, uncommon letters like Z are worth 8 or 10. Create words of between 4 and 10 letters to reach a certain score to beat the round before you run out of plays. Each time you beat a round, you get a "perk" or modifier, like "3rd letter in the word has it's score multiplied by 3". For example, with the word "PIXEL" the X would be worth 24 points instead of 8. It's pretty fun and addicting and a pretty great pick up and play game for cheap.

This is a game my mom would love, and I wish there was a mobile version of it. Hopefully one is in the works - this game feels like it's be perfect on a tablet.

Verdict: Timewaster
