Ys X: Nordics

October 12, 2025 - Reading time: 2 minutes - Category: game library project

Ys is maybe my favorite game series of all time. I got into the series years ago and have played all entries that have released in the US. I enjoy all 3 styles the franchise has tried, with Ys 8 being my favorite. Ys 9 was great, but didn't quite hit the same highs as 8, so I'm hoping 10 does.

I actually played the demo for this one about a year ago, and then put the game on my wishlist for a sale since I have so much other stuff to play. I got the chance to pick it up for pretty cheap, so I jumped on it, and decided to start a new game rather than continuing my progress.

It's definitely an Ys game. The combat is fast and frantic and fun. I don't like the duo system as much as the Flash system form Ys 8, but it's a fun mechanic. It seems a bit simple so far. I haven't played far enough into the story to have an opinion. I've heard people say the ship combat parts are tedious, and I'm definitely getting that from the bit I've played so far. Hopefully I'll enjoy it.

I'll finish every Ys game. Even an average Ys game is a great game for me. I'm really disappointed that Falcom announced the deluxe "Proud Nordics" version of this game a week after the initial US release, and then decided not to release the updated version on PS5. Totally mind-boggling decision, and really greedy. I'm just playing the original version as I've heard the new content is only just ok.
