I mostly know Miles/Christian Cameron through his historical fiction, which is excellent. I've also read his Traitor Son cycle, which is medieval fantasy. Against All Gods is the start of a series set in an alternate Bronze Age, and while it's a good start to a series it's not as strong as his historical work.
The premise is certainly interesting, having a pantheon of gods that are tangible actors in the world, and clearly have more going on than is revealed here, and most of the main cast is fun. It's a bit of a slow starter as it takes a while for the cast to all converge and the plot to really get rolling. The main plot is fairly simple - a group of mortals up against the gods. It's nothing groundbreaking but is totally serviceable.
My favorite parts of the book were the short interludes in between chapters that were told from the POV of the gods. The mystery of them was really interesting and I wish we got some more background on them.
Nice start to the trilogy.
