Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is a movie I've been looking forward to for a while, being a fan of both the director and the source material. While Frankenstein deviates from the source, it's a creative, engaging re-imagination of the tale and well worth a watch.
This is a really tragic story, and Jacob Elordi steals the show as the creature. He's full of emotion, anger, and confusion, and he plays the part well. Oscar Isaac is great as Frankenstein, portraying the doctor's arrogance and regret brilliantly.
The production value is fantastic. The sets are incredible; super colorful and realistic and full, as are the costumes, to go along with a soundtrack that fits the tone perfectly.
It's a little slow in parts, and the runtime is quite long, coming in at about 2 and a half hours, but it's definitely worth a watch if you're at all interested in the original novel, sci-fi, or Gothic themes.
