Marathon is another great entry in the Long War series. This novel features a lot of build-up, and is slow in parts, but culminates in an excellent rendition of the battle of Marathon.
Marathon picks up directly after the previous novel, with the same frame story concept of Arimnestos telling his story to his daughter and her friends. This works well, and the occasional moments of Arimnestos speaking directly to his audience are cute, but it does lessen the tension quite a bit when you know he's not going to be killed or seriously injured.
The writing remains strong. It's not overly flowery as to hold the story back, but has enough flavor to be interesting. If you've read any of Cameron's other novels, you know what to expect here.
I'm excited to continue reading the series, however like others have said Cameron's series can get a little formulaic. It's a nice formula, but reading his work back-to-back makes the pattern of the stories pretty evident.
