I played a whole lot of Kirby Air Ride with my cousin back in the day. Like everyone, we loved the City Trial mode, but we also played a bunch of Top Ride. Now, damn near 20 years later, there's a sequel/remake coming out, and Nintendo put out a tech test with the release coming up.
I played a bit, and it's fun, but it's not gripping me like I hoped it would. A huge part of my love for the original was playing it with my cousin, and playing online, while cool, just doesn't hit the same. I like that they've made it a 16-person event, and you get a few choices of final event. The City is also greatly expanded while still feeling familiar.
The actual racing was never the star of the show for me, and that's still true, but it is good simple fun and it looks great. Top Ride unfortunately is not featured here.
I want this game, but I don't want to spend $50 or $60 on it. I'm not sure the content in City Trial will be enough to keep it fresh for anyone besides die-hards, and I'm worried that a few months in the game will be dominated by people who've figured out meta strategies.
I think this would do great at a $30 price point or bundled with NSO, but I think the full price will turn a lot of people off.
